Artist's Comments

Winter solstice marks the shortest day of the year. This image celebrates the increasing daylight as Sun's ebbing comes to a halt — embodying hope, rebirth and revival that comes with the new year. The Snow Queen beginning to relinquish her hold on nature, as it were.

Inspired by the art of turn-of-the-century illustrators like Kay Nielsen and Arthur Rackham.

I liked the color approach for this piece. It was very easy to do and gave the whole image a nice soft quality. ^_^

I love the soft coloring, it makes it feel very delicate. The line work is very pretty as well. =D

Ahhh, she is much more your vision with hints of Kay Nielsen than any of Arthur Rackham.
